The Swinging Blue Jeans

Formed in Liverpool by Ray Ennis and Les Braid in 1961, The Swinging Blue Jeans were cruising when the Merseybeat sound poured out of our radios in the early 1960s and caused a storm on both sides of the Atlantic. Initially a skiffle group named The Bluegenes, they took their unique blend of skiffle, jazz and rock n’ roll to become one of the most exciting bands on the Mersey scene.

A hard-working band with regular gigs here at the Cavern Club and appearances at the Star Club in Hamburg, The Swinging Blue Jeans were a hard act to follow and they were soon snapped up by EMI, who released a string of hits on their HMV label. One band that had to follow them on stage, was The Beatles! who first appeared at the Cavern Club as guests of the Jeans.
